EKIM Drops New “Locked Up” EP for Crazy Girls

It’s been almost a year since EKIM, the emotional electro-pop and trap artist, dropped her first self-titled EP featuring “Muslim Bitch.” But last week, she released yet another EP project that gets to the heart of our knee-jerk reaction to things like institutionalization and other forms of caging people. You could say that the EP, entitled “Locked Up,” is EKIM at her most vulnerable and volatile, as she opens up about her experiences with self-harm and drug abuse.

“Locked Up” breaks the mold of what’s come to be known as sad girl. On the EP, EKIM’s voice is angry, hurt, and unruly; her pain is obviously still raw, and she is unwilling to fit into a prepackaged understanding of trauma. With each track, I kept thinking, this is a lullaby for the crazy girls.
